Our Dads are SuperHeros: Construction

It was such a wonderful time having some of our Dads and Uncles in to help us build three Marble runs out of wood. We were learning how to co-operate with each other and make a marble track that worked! Our Dads help us tremendously with the plan, sawing, nailing, constructing, testing retesting, and reflecting. Such a great way to revise our understanding of the design process we learned about last term. Dads /Uncles, you really are our Superheros!

T3 Week 1 Soccer session and beginning measurement; length

Welcome back to Term 3.
During week one we enjoyed a soccer session, playing a game and doing some skill exercises.
Maths this term will be filled with measurement. We started with understanding length. Five different stations asked us to complete some length activities. Could we be tall as possible, could we grow wiggly worms, how far away are our vehicles from different buildings build in our town.

Song of the Sea Show. Introduction to the design process. Junior Disco

Show at Bruce Mason: Song of the Sea.
Learning about the design process; how to start if you want to design something, and what the steps are.
Some Learners "caught" doing their moves at the Junior Disco. Were you there?

Minions' Egg Protecter design and Egg drop challenge.

Minions got together in the hall to design
                                                 and create an egg protecter.
The raw egg in its packaging (protection) was dropped from a height and checked to see if it was damaged. Three eggs survived and we discussed what was the same about the protection each had.
Ask a Minion and they will tell you the answer.

Wonder Women helped us identify 2D shapes outside

We celebrated the wonderful women in our lives by inviting them to our class to share our learning with us. With an i-pad and a buddy, our wonderful women took us outside to photo 2D shapes around the school. Then they returned to class and helped us describe the characteristics of the shapes we found with another group. We made a 2D picture out of five colourful shapes. We loved the time spent together. Let's do it again next year!

T.1. Week 11 Book Week Characters in Room 19

Book week was fun and busy. Can you guess who we are?

Building our failure "muscles"

Week 11, final week of term, we got the opportunity to return to our failed mindset challenges
This group returned to the Brainy box and got the lamp
to glow and the fan to spin.

Others, who failed this challenge in the past, managed to power the digital clock using coke power and apple. Success.
This group having had success with the other challenges tried to power the lamp with salt dough,
(the sugar dough had gone off!) Failure. But take a look at their faces, they don't look unhappy.
We are beginning to openly talk about our failures, stand back and critically judge our skills.
In fact, all our challenges using the salt and sugar dough failed. We did see a youtube clip showing us how it was meant to work.

Brain Immersion 2017

Learning about our brain helps us to understand how we learn and how we can improve our learning.

First two weeks 2017

Holiday painting, Tio block meeting to talk about team name, classroom treaty signed to promote positive and safe behaviour in room 19. Computers named, set up and a session on "trouble shooting"
Building relationships using Personality bags to find out more about each other.

Welcome to Room 19 Blog 2017

We begin with planning where the classroom furniture should go. We place photographs of the large furniture on a floor plan and talk about how all furniture has to be away from all the doors for safety reasons.
